Naturally formed freshwater pearls do still occur but they are very rare. They can sometimes still be found in the clean fresh waters of Scottish and Bavarian rivers but their appearance is very limited and as such the rarity commands very high prices..
At a fraction of the cost, cultured freshwater pearls are in excess of 12mm and simply stunning.
Slightly mis-shapen with a luxurious lustre these white pearls show a slight pink hue which compliments the skin perfectly.
Unusually large, the pearls come from the Far East where freshwater pearl culturing has been revolutionised over the past 10 years
enabling good quality larger sizes to now be produced at very reasonable prices.
